I get it - the "ends" have some merit. But the "ways" and "means," are they off target?
Can the White House’s behavior begin to threaten American troops, citizens, and interests abroad - and at home?
The POTUS’s release of an old, for theater and fun, big-time wrestling video showing him beating up a CNN reporter could be interpreted by some as dangerous. Very dangerous for a vast number of reasons (http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/lawmakers-blast-trump%E2%80%99s-%E2%80%98crude-false-and-unpresidential%E2%80%99-cnn-tweet/ar-BBDANBS?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp).
I just finished re-reading “Big Agenda” which describes President Trump’s plan to “Save America” (Author: David Horowitz). The book is a recent New York Times best seller and is heralded by many leading supporters of the Conservative extreme right and President Trump.
More to follow on the book in a subsequent post, but I have to say it is an interesting read. It outlines a political agenda that sees its enemy – the chief enemy of America – as Democrats. And, unless the tide is turned, the very core of what America is will be lost. The book gives you a peak into the minds of the extreme right and how they feel they must tear down the so called “politically correct” environment that’s infiltrated America - shaped by extreme leftist Democratic interests - that is destroying America and has an overall destabilizing effect. A kind of war or crusade where the gloves must come off and where there are no boundaries to re-righting America as they see it – including presumably through tactics as depicted in the President’s video.
My general sense is this. Extremism on either side of the political isle – Republicans or Democrats – is bad for America and dangerous, and not in the best interests of, American and global security interests. I’m not comfortable with the tack “Big Agenda” proposes. Not because I fear confrontation in any way – but because I know the value in employing measured and intelligent choices when it comes to the use of confrontation and solving problems with an eye toward second and third order effects. I worry about the health of America – as a patriot, our sovereignty is important to me. Though I can empathize with many of the “ends” the POTUS believes in, the “ways” and “means” of achieving those ends, in my mind, should receive intelligent debate and discussion of their merits and second and third order effects. After all, we want what's healthy for America, right?
The Utah Bull Moose Party is about “doing-the-right-thing.” A political perspective that supports intelligent solutions to the difficult problems we face. In a world full of threats, we must keep a firm, informed, and intelligent hand on the throttle of both domestic and international affairs and interests. If we don’t, extreme behaviors (whether right or left) will be employed by domestic and foreign adversaries to our detriment.
I very much hope American voters will say “enough” in the upcoming 2018 mid-term elections - specifically the Utah election for Senator Hatch's seat. I hope in forthcoming elections folks turn out in unprecedented numbers and vote out extreme and do-nothing incumbents from both parties that have fostered either gridlock or extremist candidates. The best way of righting the ship is to get people from outside the parties into key positions in both parties – regular mainstream American folks that are both informed and willing to do-the-right-thing for our communities and America.
There are two ways to do this. Outsiders winning Republican and Democrat party nominations, or starting grass-roots parties that invite voters to support a healthier approach to achieving America’s interests…
