Yikes, am I a Progressive?

I was at the 4th of July celebration at the Huntsville Park Tuesday.  We had a Utah Bull Moose Party food booth and were asking folks how they felt about the leadership the Republicans and Democrats have been producing.  Though most were courageously supportive of the Utah Bull Moose Party petition and its platform, one of the people came up to me and said, with some pent-up consternation, that he does not support “Progressive” efforts.

Having just read “Big Agenda” I thought, wait a minute, I don’t think I am one of those “evil Democrat communist progressive types outlined in Big Agenda who are allegedly bent on destroying America, am I?”  The answer is of course no.  But, I certainly have an appreciation for “doing-the-right-thing” which I believe is what President Roosevelt believed in.  President Roosevelt started the Progressive Party over 100 years ago – a “Republican.”  So how did President Roosevelt’s party become associated with such an allegedly evil movement?  Simply put, definitions and labels can change over time to take on new meanings and symbolism.  The “Utah Bull-Moose Party” is a completely new Party with conservative grass-roots community values and a middle-leaning platform that supports an intelligent approach to government by “doing-the-right-thing.”  This, I believe, is something anyone can get behind.  Incidentally, there are many Republican and Democratic Party folks I call friends and all are good people who feel strongly about the health of the United States - maybe this is where the Utah Bull-Moose Party finds its common ground? 

I urge people to peal the onion back just a little and investigate the merits of the Bull Moose Party and the mainstream values and grass-roots opinions that many people believe makes sense – commonsense – whether they identify with Republicans or Democrats.  

By the way, the Utah Bull-Moose Party supports women's right to vote, woman's suffrage, and the 19th Amendment - all positions Teddy's evil "Progressive" Party supported.
