Health Care Reform – Congress should start with the desired end in mind and figure out how to pay for it from there.
Bottom-line: All Americans demand access to health care when needed. No person with a fiber of compassion wants to see a loved one or fellow human beings in need of medical attention left for dead – right?
Nancy Pelosi (D) said on CBS This Morning “hundreds of thousands of people will die” if the new senate health care bill is passed (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/nancy-pelosi-warns-hundreds-of-thousands-of-people-will-die-if-gop-health-bill-passes/). But, here again, she offers no solutions.
Senator Hatch (R), Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, merely laments how the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) has driven costs up and how the Democrats behaved underhandedly in getting Obamacare passed (4 days ago on the Senate floor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=983lMRRB32s&feature=youtu.be&t=5m10s). Again, only attacks against the Democrats.
Stop crying about it and just fix it!!!
Fire them both!!!
If Congress would start with the end in mind and back into what it will take to provide adequate healthcare, and quit attacking each other, they could get it right. A law that penalizes people by requiring them to pay a fee for not having healthcare coverage is ridiculous. If the people not covered had the money, they would have insurance. But folks, we know how that game is played out. If you cannot afford to pay the penalty, ultimately the government can levy more fines and penalties that can result in liens against property, garnishments of future wages, and even seizure of retirement account assets – and of course loan shark rates of never ending accruing interest, penalties, and legal fees. Is this the kind of reform and government direction you are comfortable with?
(Cautionary Note: Opting out of Obamacare (Aka: ACA) may not carry any enforceable penalties according to Forbes author Kelly Phillips Erb, "Opting Out Of The Obamacare Tax: What Happens If You Don't Pay?" https://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2015/02/26/opting-out-of-the-obamacare-tax/#5975ba6e40a0. However, be warned that once a law is enacted, oversights and vague language can easily be changed and retro-acted to recoup fines after legal "due-process" has been settled. Meaning, be very careful in opting out, not paying the penalties, and believing you will not see a financial impact at some future point.)
Of course, the incumbent legislators say, if we don’t make them pay a penalty, then people will simply not obtain healthcare. Not true!
Yes, yes… someone must pay for the costs though. Here again, the money is there. This can be figured out. However, the more control the government has over all aspects of your financial life, the less control you have over your own life.
Folks, The World Bank reports the U.S. is the highest spending nation in the world on health care as a percent of GDP (http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SH.XPD.TOTL.ZS). Yet, our elected officials want to dip into your pockets even deeper to tackle the health care problem.
Are you happy with the leadership the incumbent parties are producing? Are they finding the solutions that fix the problems? Or, are they just spinning in circles as they fight one another and leaving us short?
Term limits folks. And, fix the unhealthy leadership that’s produced internally to each of the leading parties. Fresh outside leadership that’s focused on getting in, “doing-the-right-thing” and getting out may be the solution.
Incumbents who are perpetually interested in re-election, and who get there because of rich special interests who have the money to win the elections, is a big part of the problem. Luckily, your vote still matters – Utah Bull Moose Party – U.S. Senate 2018.
Can we get regular people in there who will “do-the-right-thing?”
